Saracens: the possibilities Bookmark and Share

Saracens have announced the signing England’s David Strettle from Harlequins. The 26-year-old, capped six times by his country, will move to Vicarage Road for the start of the 2010/11 season.

He follows in the footsteps of Richard Wigglesworth and Matt Stevens, Scotland flanker Kelly Brown and Tongan prop Soane Tonga’uiha, all of whom on their day (and Tonga’uiha rarely if ever has a bad day) are all world class players.

On paper if you add these to the current Saracens top players’ it looks to be a very strong team indeed. However as Saracens have shown many times in the past throwing money at star names doesn’t mean success at all. With Brendan Venter in charge it can go two ways. He tends to play to win one game at a time, with tactics to overcome an opposition style of play, rather than form a “playing style”.

It might be worth if you are a betting man to put a couple of quid on them!
