Gareth Thomas cross code debut for the Crusaders against Catalans
Brian Noble has named ex-Rugby Union and Wales Captain Gareth Thomas in his side to face Catalan on Friday night. A lot of people think his signing is purely a marketing ploy to get bums on seats at the newly formed franchise. After all the 35 year old has never played Rugby League in his life and even his 100 caps for Wales won’t help him.
I’m sure the he’ll get the same treatment that all converts get when they switch codes. Mind you saying that, Rugby League players tend to treat all opposition the same.
He’ll have to be prepared to take some hits that are actually sending off offences in Union such as the perfectly legal shoulder charge. Let’s hope for his sake and Brian Nobles that this doesn’t end up like Dwain Chambers Rugby League debacle.
